Welcome to the Grey Sea Nomads - A unique, not for profit, retirement option for over fifties.

Their is a different way to live, more in tune with our environment, within the natural rhythm of nature, and as far away from robotic city life as we can get. The big bright thing in the sky is our clock, and the winds determine our direction.

sailing is hard work (if you’re the crew) If you’re not crew, being wealthy helps, with the folk above paying around 1,500 dollars a day each for the privilege. Not a pastime for most retirees or those struggling on a pension, reserved for the wealthier among us.

Just imagine if you could do exactly the same, on a similar sailing vessel from about the same price (weekly) as the Australian single pension, and for the rest of your life if you want ! Not only sailing round Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand, but nearly anywhere you decide to go. An analogy could be "a retirement village on the water" although much more fun and exciting.

It sounds too good to be true, no more cooking, cleaning or washing, waking to different views every day, breakfast ready, discovering all those great places not seen on TV, being as active or inactive as you want, cared for by the professional crew. Well, it is true and your retirement could be very different. Travel becomes a lifestyle, not just a rushed week here, or two weeks there.

Enjoy retirement in a different world, away from suburbia and our crazy polluted cities, no flies, mosquito's, dust or engine noise. Replaced by whales, dolphins and beautiful sunsets, clear skies, clean air, healthier for mind, body and spirit.

If, like us, you view retirement as the next phase of travel and adventure, life being more than a retirement village box, this could be for you. You don't need to be a sailor or know anything about sailing, that's what the crew are for.

Why should young folk have all the fun, life and living doesn’t end with retirement, why live off memories, it’s time to create new ones.

Planes, trains, automobiles and hotels don’t cut it anymore, we’re too old for crowded airports, delayed flights or group bus tours, and sheep ships are simply not our cup of tea. We want to take the comfort of our home with us, our own toilet, shower and bed.

Pictured above are "young people" enjoying a two week cruise, sadly they need to rush their little adventure because most have to return to work. We don't, retirement means work has generally finished for us and we have time to be adventurous at our own slow or fast pace, it's your choice.

A big, and very heavy wooden sailing vessel isn’t fast, but it’s comfortable, very relaxed and is your home for as long as you want.

No veneer, not reproductions, nothing here made to look like something, these are real wooden ships, as they have been built for hundreds of years, pure solid timber and brass. Ok, with a few minor extras like engine, radar, sonar and lots of other technology you can’t see, but the rest is traditional art on the water.

Their will be many places you simply will not want to leave, the beauty just so overwhelming. We reserve the right to drag you kicking and screaming back aboard, for your own good :-)

We want to share our dream with other retirees aboard a small flotilla of these craft. You may never have been on a boat before, it doesn’t matter, it’s your willingness to try something different and have an open mind that counts. We are fairly reserved, quiet people in many respects, simply wishing to travel the world in a different way in our retirement years.

Just put the shade cloth up, set the tables and wait for the fish to be caught!

Yes, we could spend our retirement years watching TV in our box, sitting in

traffic jams, breathing in the pollution, getting more stressed, or........

Be early, or be on the waiting list.

"For the truth is that I already know as much about my fate as I need to know. The day will come when I will die. So the only matter of consequence before me is what I will do with my allotted time. I can remain on shore, paralyzed with fear, or I can raise my sails and dip and soar in the breeze."

- Richard Bode, First you have to row a little boat.

We envisage the first major voyage will be from the beautiful islands of Indonesia, down the east coast of Australia and the great Barrier Reef, including the stunning Whitsunday Islands to Brisbane, Sydney and onto Tasmania. From there it's the short passage to New Zealand, finishing with an island hop back to Indonesia. As a rough guide, this is about 15 months of life in our "retirement village". The world really will be our oyster, and once you've adapted to this lifestyle, any other will seem boring.
